Council Rates

Last modified: August 14, 2009 - 11:18 AM

Council rates are levied at the beginning of each financial year.

Council provides ratepayers with the option of either paying rates in full, by the first instalment date, or paying by instalments. If choose to pay on the instalment program, ie a payment each quarter, the rate instalment schedule is listed below. Reminder notices are sent out prior to the due date.

  • 1st Instalment Due 31/08/09
  • 2nd Instalment Due 30/11/09
  • 3rd Instalment Due 28/02/10
  • 4th Instalment Due 31/05/10

Late payments do incur interest daily, which if not included in the instalment amount carry over to the next instalment & appears as arrears.

The State Government on the 1st July 05 has introduced a user pays system for water charges. This has changed the way Council applies these charges, in that previously was all inclusive in Councils rates, with only excess water being billed separately.

Now Council will be billing water charges separately from its rates.

A service access charge will appear on the rates notice for filtered & raw water, however the actual usage charge will be billed separately. Also the amount allocated to each household has been reduced.

In order for Council to be eligable for funding and grants from the State Government, it has had to adopt the State Government requirements for water billing.

In 2007/2008 Councils urban rates  increased by 1.3%, with farmland/rural rates remaining the same. And a 4% increase across all other categorys. A 3% increase in standard waste charges.  The increase figures for this year will be provided when received.

A copy of Councils rates, as set down for 2008/2009 are available for viewing or printing in the downloadable document box at the bottom of the page.

If require further information please contact Mrs Barb Whitfield of the Moulamein Office on 03 58875007 or fill in an online request form at the bottom of the page.

If having difficulties making your rates payments, please contact Council's rates clerk.  Council does have a Hardship Policy and arrangements can be organised.
